Eleven AGs Filed Petition to Review EPA’s Decision Not to Strengthen Aircraft PM Emissions Standards

California Attorney General Rob Bonta led 11 attorneys general in filing a petition for review challenging the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) standards regulating emissions from aircraft. The AGs argued that the rule, which declined to reduce emissions of particulate matter (PM) from aircraft engines, was unlawful and violates the Clean Air Act. In 2022, AG Bonta, along with the California Air Resource Board, led comments to EPA arguing that these standards do not adequately acknowledge the burden of PM emissions on nearby communities that are already overburdened by pollution, and called for stronger standards.
