Eight AGs Sent Comments to EPA on the Risks of Methylene Chloride

New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of attorneys general in sending comments responding to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed rule to address the risks of methylene chloride under the Toxic Substances Control Act. Methylene chloride is a solvent used as a wide variety of commercial and consumer products, such as adhesives and paint removers. Both acute and chronic exposure pose dangerous health effects, including cancer, neurotoxicity, and even death. In their comments, the AGs urged EPA to narrow its approved uses of the substance further than what the rule proposed in order to “fulfill its obligation to address the unreasonable risk of methylene chloride, and to protect environmental justice communities.”
