Eight AGs Recommended Emphasis on Community Priorities and Participation in EPA EJ Grant Program

Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell led eight attorneys general in filing comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s request for information on its Environmental and Climate Justice Block Grant Program. The AGs provided recommendations on the design, timing, application requirements, and oversight of the program. For example, the coalition urged EPA to provide a clear definition of “disadvantaged community” and to prioritize projects that put an emphasis on community engagement and align with communities’ priorities. Lastly, in order to promote accountability and transparency, the AGs called on EPA to publish a full list of recommendations from the comment period, noting which suggestions the agency plans to incorporate in the final program.
