District of Columbia AG Secured Settlement with Coal Plant Operator Over Water Pollution Discharges

District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine secured a settlement with GenOn Holdings Inc., operator of a now-retired coal-fired power plant in Alexandria, Virginia, over repeated unlawful discharges of oil and other pollutants into the Potomac River. Under the terms of the settlement, GenOn will pay $2.4 million in civil penalties to the District of Columbia, and will make two contributions of $50,000 each to support Potomac River cleanup efforts and environmental enforcement trainings.
