Connecticut AG Secured Custody of over 90 Neglected Goats
DECEMBER 6, 2022
In December 2022, Connecticut Attorney General William announced that his office had secured custody of over 90 goats that had been neglected at a Connecticut property after seeking custody in October 2021. Inspections at the property revealed dangerous and unsafe conditions for the animals. The goats are available for adoption through the Department of Agriculture.
In April 2024, AG Tong issued the following statement after a judge decided to hear further input regarding the property owner’s sentencing: “I am pleased and encouraged that the State’s Attorney advocated for, and Judge Medina granted, the State the opportunity to make a statement on this matter in court on May 14. As a State, we must continue to take egregious animal abuse cases like this one seriously and impose meaningful sentences that will deter animal abusers from ever owning animals again. The Office of the Attorney General looks forward to commenting further next month. I want to thank Judge Medina again for giving the State and other victims and interested parties the opportunity to be heard on this very important case.”
