Connecticut AG Filed Brief Urging Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to Reject Water Company’s Rate Hike Request

Connecticut Attorney General William Tong filed a brief urging the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) to reject the Connecticut Water Company’s request to raise rates by 18%, resulting in a $21.8 million increase in revenue. In his brief, AG Tong highlighted a number of ways that the utility could have adjusted its proposal to avoid increasing rates, including by asking for a more modest return on equity, rather than the 10.5% requested, which is “substantially higher than the state’s other regulated utilities.”
