California AG Sued Walmart over Hazardous Waste Disposal

California Attorney General Rob Bonta, along with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control and twelve district attorneys, filed a lawsuit against Walmart for violating state environmental laws by improperly disposing of hazardous waste. The complaint alleged that for at least six years, the company had been dumping 159,600 pounds of hazardous waste at local landfills a year, including products such as batteries, pesticides, toxic cleaning supplies, and electronic waste. This lawsuit followed an investigation by the AG office which began after Walmart failed to meet the injunctive terms set out in a settlement from the CA AG office’s 2010 lawsuit against the company for similar violations.
