California AG Sent Letter to Fresno City Council Objecting to Rezoning of EJ Communities

California Attorney General Rob Bonta sent a letter urging the Fresno City Council to reject a proposal to rezone a 100-acre residential area that contains “some of the most over-burdened and under-invested environmental justice communities in all of California” into an industrialized zone. A few years prior to the proposed plan, the city undertook an initiative to “combat and reverse the historical inequities and underinvestment in Southwest Fresno due to policies . . . that led to industrial uses being clustered near these low-income communities.” According to the AG’s letter, the proposal in question would undo much of the progress made by the city’s initiative.
