California AG Reached Settlement with Healthcare Company for Illegal Disposal of Hazardous and Sensitive Waste

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a settlement with a healthcare provider corporation for illegally disposing of hazardous medical waste and over 10,000 paper records containing sensitive health information of over 7,700 patients. The waste was deposited at publicly accessible landfills. Under the settlement, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals were ordered to pay $49 million total, part of which will go towards funding supplemental environmental protects, and take significant steps to improve its waste disposal practices.
