California AG Intervened in Moreno Valley General Plan Lawsuit

California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a motion for leave to intervene in a lawsuit between the Sierra Club and the City of Moreno Valley. AG Bonta argued that the Moreno Valley 2040 General Plan, a plan for land use and development, violated California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) by not adequately reviewing the impact of air pollution from the General Plan’s buildout. The CalEnviroScreen, a tool used to identify environmental justice communities, ranked Moreno Valley among the highest cities in the state for ozone pollution. With a population made up of approximately 85% people of color, AG Bonta also argued that the General Plan did not take into account its own environmental and public health consequences on these communities.
