California AG Intervened in Moreno Valley General Plan Lawsuit

California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a motion for leave to intervene in a lawsuit between the Sierra Club and The City of Moreno Valley. The Moreno Valley 2040 General Plan, a plan for land use and development, was in violation of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) by not adequately reviewing the impact of air pollution from the General Plan's buildout, argued AG Bonta. The CalEnviroScreen, a tool used to identify Environmental Justice communities, ranked Moreno Valley among the highest cities in the state for ozone pollution. With a population made up of approximately 85% people of color, AG Bonta also argued that the General Plan did not take into account its own environmental and public health consequences on these communities.
