California AG Announced Felony Arrests in Recycling Fraud Scheme

On May 25, 2022, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced felony charges against six people involved in a Los Angeles recycling fraud scheme. According to the allegations, the individuals transported over nine tons of bottles and cans from Arizona into California in order to redeem money through California Redemption Value program, in which eligible beverage containers bought in state can be redeemed for 5 or 10 centers a piece. The individuals were charged with recycling fraud and grand theft.
On March 8, 2023, AG Bonta announced two additional arrests related to the same scheme.
