Arizona AG Sent Two Letters Calling for Stricter Water Oversight
APRIL 17, 2023
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes sent two letters to the Arizona Department of Water Resources calling for stricter water oversight. The AG explained that with the increasing threats of climate change, the state’s water crisis requires strong leadership. Pointing to a recent example in which the agency only revoked permits for two deep-water wells after the AG’s office had voiced concern, AG Mayes called for more careful monitoring of permit applications for projects in unregulated areas, as well as more routine review of groundwater resources.
