Thirteen AGs Commented on EPA’s Asbestos Proposal
JULY 13, 2022
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey led a coalition of 13 attorneys general in comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed rule setting restrictions on the use of asbestos. Asbestos is a known human carcinogen that has no safe level of exposure, and is still used in a range of materials. The rule would restrict manufacturing and importation, processing, distribution and commercial use and disposal of the toxin. While the AGs supported the proposal to ban the use of asbestos, the comments urged the EPA to set a ban on future importation and use of all forms of asbestos.
