New York AG Secured Settlement Requiring Auto Parts Manufacturer to Reimburse State for Cleanup of Oil, Other Contaminants

New York Attorney General Letitia James secured a settlement with auto parts manufacturer American Axle & Manufacturing over contamination at the Tonawanda Forge site in Tonawanda, New York. The settlement addressed the company’s liability under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and required the company to pay approximately $3.6 million to reimburse the state for expenses related to the cleanup of contaminants released at the site, including petroleum, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), asbestos, metals and pesticides.
