Massachusetts AG Secured Compensation for Harms to Natural Resources and Fish

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced a settlement with Barnhardt Manufacturing Company, a cotton bleaching company, for failing to repair a storage tank the company knew was damaged, which leaked dozens of gallons of sulfuric acid into a nearby river. The contamination resulted in the death of more than 270,000 fish and damaged protected lands. The company will go through training to stop future pollution and will pay close to $1.5 million in penalties and funds for environmental restoration projects.
