California AG Filed Motion to Intervene to Support Limits on Emissions Associated with Warehouses
OCTOBER 13, 2021
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and the California Air Resources Board filed a motion to intervene in support of the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s (Air District) rule that requires warehouses in California—that are typically located in low-income communities and communities of color—to reduce the air pollution that is associated with indirect activities around their facilities. For instance, diesel trucks in motion or idling create heavy amounts of nitrogen oxide that is associated with respiratory problems and a contributor to cancer. The California Trucking Association recently filed a lawsuit challenging the rule. In defending the rule, Attorney General Bonta and CARB argued that the lawsuit’s claims are meritless and that state and federal law supports the Air District’s authority to adopt the rule.
