Oregon AG Filed Lawsuits against Chemical Companies, Including 3M and DuPont, over PFAS Manufacturing

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum filed a lawsuit against 21 chemical manufacturing companies, including 3M and DuPont, over the manufacturing of manufacturing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—also known as “forever chemicals”—that caused harm to state residents and natural resources. Specifically, the lawsuit enumerated the ways the defendants played a role in contaminating the state with aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF)—or “firefighting foam”—that contained PFAS. According to statement by AG Rosenblum, the lawsuit demonstrated that “these defendants knew for decades that PFAS – and, particularly, PFAS-containing fire-fighting foam – is dangerous to human health and to the environment,” and that the companies caused contamination to the state that required “significant expense to investigate, treat, and remediate,” all the while “profit[ing] mightily from their flagrant disregard for the health and safety of Oregonians and [the state’s] natural resources.”
