Maryland AG Filed Lawsuits against Chemical Companies, Including 3M and DuPont, over PFAS Manufacturing

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown filed two lawsuits seeking to hold chemical manufacturing companies, including 3M and DuPont, accountable for contaminating the state’s resources and putting residents at risk by manufacturing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as “forever chemicals” for their resistance to breaking down in the human body and the environment. One lawsuit addresses harm from PFAS in aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF), or firefighting foam, and the other addresses contamination from non-AFFF sources. The lawsuits allege that the companies “knew the dangers associated with their PFAS products many decades ago, [but] kept the risks secret and failed to alert the State or the public, [and] continued to pursue profits through the manufacturing, marketing, and sales of their PFAS products in Maryland.”
