California AG Sent Letters to Plastic Bag Manufacturers Telling Them to Back up Recyclability Claims

California Attorney General Rob Bonta sent a letter telling seven plastic bag manufacturers to back their claims that their plastic bags are, in fact, recyclable. State law bans stores from providing single-use plastic bags that cannot be recycled. Since the bags made by these manufacturers make up a large share of bags used by retailers across the state, AG Bonta stressed the importance of verifying the manufacturers’ recyclability claims. In the letter, AG Bonta insisted that the manufacturers provide evidence by November 16, or else potentially face enforcement action.
