Wisconsin AG Settled with Recycling Company over Hazardous Waste Disposal

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced that his office had obtained a civil judgment against a recycling company for improperly disposing of hazardous waste. The company operated a lamp crushing facility and failed to follow protocols for handling mercury-containing substances. Mercury is classified as a persistent bioaccumulative toxic substance and is especially harmful to the health of children and infants. As a result of the suit, the company was required to pay $90,000 and address the effects of the facility’s mercury contamination. The company also voluntarily suspended its lamp crushing operations and will now use the facility for brokering and transferring electronic waste.
