Texas AG Filed Lawsuit Against Retail Electricity Supplier Over Deceptive Advertising and Marketing Practices
FEBRUARY 28, 2021
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against retail electricity supplier Griddy, LLC, over the company’s “false, misleading, and deceptive acts and practices” that violated the state’s consumer protection laws. According to the lawsuit, the company’s promised customers “ ‘wholesale’ prices that would consistently beat traditional energy costs,” despite being “fully aware of the reality of the risk in its pricing scheme—sky-high energy rates at a time when consumers are the most vulnerable.” The lawsuit stemmed from the 2021 winter storm that strained the Texas power grid and left many residents without heat or electricity for days at a time.
