Pennsylvania AG Charged Pipeline Operator with Environmental Crimes

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that the Office of Attorney General’s Environmental Crimes Section charged a pipeline operator with 48 counts of environmental crimes for their conduct during the construction of the Mariner East 2 Pipeline, which spans 17 counties in southern Pennsylvania. The charges alleged that during construction, Energy Transfer allowed thousands of gallons of drilling fluid to leak underground and did not comply with the legal requirement to report these losses to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. If convicted, Energy Transfer faces fines and restitution.
