Nineteen AGs Filed Amicus Brief in Support of New Jersey’s Sovereign Immunity over PennEast Lawsuit

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum led a coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in support of New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s dismissal of PennEast Pipeline Company’s lawsuit, arguing that the state was immune from suit under the Eleventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The coalition argued in the brief that state sovereign immunity is an integral part of the country’s federalist system.
