New Jersey AG Filed Nine Environmental Enforcement Lawsuits with Focus on Protecting Environmental Justice Communities

New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal filed nine environmental enforcement lawsuits against property owners and other parties responsible for a range of air and water pollution issues and other environmental harms at locations across the state. Seven of the lawsuits centered on sites located in environmental justice communities. The lawsuits brought the total number of enforcement actions filed by the Environmental Enforcement and Environmental Justice Section of AG Grewal’s office to 39 since its establishment in 2018.

On July 19, 2021, Acting AG Andrew Bruck filed an amended verified complaint and a request for a court order against a company responsible for illegally disposing of contaminated solid waste, soil and debris. The amended complaint is the result of additional inspections by the Department of Environmental Protection following the initial lawsuit filed by former AG Grewal in May 2021.
