Maryland AG Alerted Governor that Drinking Water Could Be at Risk

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh sent a letter informing Governor Hogan that the state’s Water Supply Program (WSP), which is responsible for ensuring safe drinking water, could be jeopardizing access to reliable water for millions of Maryland residents due to its lack of funding and shortage of staff. According to a 2021 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report on WSP, the program is severely understaffed, needing close to 187% more full-time employees and 93% more funding in order to make sure that the program can adequately meet its goal. At the end of the letter, AG Frosh urged the Governor to submit a public resource investment plan to EPA that has been overdue since October.
