Fifteen AGs Called on Congress to Address PFAS in National Defense Authorization Act

November 24, 2021

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey led a coalition of fifteen attorneys general in sending a letter to the Senate to support provisions addressing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the fiscal year 2022, which authorizes a budget for defense activities of the military and the Department of Energy. But in addition to the support, the coalition insisted that the Senate approve its bill after adding important protections against PFAS that appear in the House-passed version of NDAA including as written in the letter – requiring the Department of Defense to report on the status of clean-up at identified PFAS sites across the country and establishing a moratorium on PFAS incineration.
