Fifteen AGs Called for Suspension of Dangerous Transport of LNG by Rail
DECEMBER 23, 2021
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of 15 attorneys general in submitting comments
supporting a proposal by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) that would suspend a Trump-era rule that allowed transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by railroad without implementing adequate safety controls, which is extremely dangerous. The comments argued that the rule was based on an insufficient safety analysis that did not consider the rule’s impact on greenhouse gas emissions or how this dangerous practice could disproportionately affect low-income, minority, underserved, and disadvantaged communities.
