Eleven AGs Filed Amicus Brief in Support of Local Governments’ Climate Liability Lawsuits
MARCH 20, 2019
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra led a coalition of 11 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in support of the City of Oakland and the City and County of San Francisco’s efforts to hold fossil fuel companies accountable for the production and marketing of climate change-causing fossil fuels. In their amicus brief, the AGs defended the cities’ right to have their claims heard in state court, under state common law, given that climate change is not a uniquely federal interest.
