California AG Announced Sentencing in a Recycling Fraud Scheme

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a sentencing in a recycling fraud case against Recycling Service Alliance Corp., which fraudulently processed out-of-state empty beverage containers and inflated the weight of their recyclables – all resulting in overpayments by the California Redemption Value fund. The company pleaded guilty to fraud and is required to pay $33 million in restitution and a $1 million fine. The final individual defendant to be sentenced will serve up to seven years in prison and is prohibited from doing similar work in the future.
