About the Center
The State Impact Center is a nonpartisan academic think tank based at NYU School of Law. The Center is dedicated to working towards a healthy and safe environment, guided by inclusive and equitable principles. To accomplish this, the Center studies and supports the work of state attorneys general in defending, enforcing, and promoting strong laws and policies in the areas of climate, environmental justice, environmental protection, and clean energy. We undertake academic research, hold workshops, and issue special reports that advance legal and policy analysis. We are a small, collaborative team, and value each person’s insights and contributions.

Who We Are Looking For
The State Impact Center is recruiting a Communications & Program Assistant to begin immediately. Our office is located in New York City, and we offer an option for a hybrid remote/in-person schedule. The Communications & Program Assistant will play a key role in the Center’s climate, clean energy, and environmental work and in helping manage the Center’s daily operations. This will include social media work; writing and editing the Center’s newsletter and other communications; assisting with event coordination; and helping track the Center’s budget.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, creative, and have an enthusiasm for environmental and climate issues. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team and encourage women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community to apply.
Core Responsibilities
- Writing & Design:
- Assist in drafting and editing press releases, statements, newsletters, reports, op-eds, website copy and other communications products
- Develop engaging and timely social media content (Twitter, Youtube, and LinkedIn)
- Design visuals (aesthetic and informational) for social media, newsletters, event invitations, etc. using programs such as Adobe Suite and Canva
- Events:
- Be responsible for Zoom logistics for virtual events, including creating registration pages (the Center is currently doing virtual events because of COVID, and we anticipate that we will continue to do most of our events virtually due to the locations of attendees)
- Assist with scheduling and planning
- Assist with coordination of logistics for in-person events (future)
- Budget & Fundraising:
- Assist in tracking the Center’s budget
- Support fundraising efforts through research and writing reports and proposals and assisting with scheduling
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 1 – 2 years of experience (we include summer or other internships).
- Collaborative: able to work well within a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Deadlines: comfortable working under pressure and tight deadlines; can prioritize workload, stay organized, and seek input as needed.
- Writing and Editing: high level of attention to detail; ability to clearly summarize and present material.
- Graphic Design & Website: experience with programs such as Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, or Canva, and an interest in learning our content management system (Craft CMS).

Salary: $50,000-$60,000
Our office is located in New York City, and we are following NYU Law School’s return to in-person work plans, with remote and hybrid accommodations available, as needed. NYU has a vaccination and booster requirement.
