About the Center 

The State Impact Cen­ter is a non­par­ti­san aca­d­e­m­ic think tank based at NYU School of Law. The Cen­ter is ded­i­cat­ed to work­ing towards a healthy and safe envi­ron­ment, guid­ed by inclu­sive and equi­table prin­ci­ples. To accom­plish this, the Cen­ter stud­ies and sup­ports the work of state attor­neys gen­er­al in defend­ing, enforc­ing, and pro­mot­ing strong laws and poli­cies in the areas of cli­mate, envi­ron­men­tal jus­tice, envi­ron­men­tal pro­tec­tion, and clean ener­gy. We under­take aca­d­e­m­ic research, hold work­shops, and issue spe­cial reports that advance legal and pol­i­cy analy­sis. We are a small, col­lab­o­ra­tive team, and val­ue each person’s insights and contributions.

Who We Are Look­ing For

The State Impact Cen­ter is recruit­ing a Com­mu­ni­ca­tions & Pro­gram Assis­tant to begin imme­di­ate­ly. Our office is locat­ed in New York City, and we offer an option for a hybrid remote/in-per­son sched­ule. The Com­mu­ni­ca­tions & Pro­gram Assis­tant will play a key role in the Cen­ter’s cli­mate, clean ener­gy, and envi­ron­men­tal work and in help­ing man­age the Center’s dai­ly oper­a­tions. This will include social media work; writ­ing and edit­ing the Center’s newslet­ter and oth­er com­mu­ni­ca­tions; assist­ing with event coor­di­na­tion; and help­ing track the Center’s bud­get.

The ide­al can­di­date will be detail-ori­ent­ed, cre­ative, and have an enthu­si­asm for envi­ron­men­tal and cli­mate issues. We are com­mit­ted to build­ing a diverse and inclu­sive team and encour­age women, peo­ple of col­or, and mem­bers of the LGBTQ+ com­mu­ni­ty to apply.

Core Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  • Writ­ing & Design: 
    • Assist in draft­ing and edit­ing press releas­es, state­ments, newslet­ters, reports, op-eds, web­site copy and oth­er com­mu­ni­ca­tions products
    • Devel­op engag­ing and time­ly social media con­tent (Twit­ter, Youtube, and LinkedIn)
    • Design visu­als (aes­thet­ic and infor­ma­tion­al) for social media, newslet­ters, event invi­ta­tions, etc. using pro­grams such as Adobe Suite and Canva
  • Events:
    • Be respon­si­ble for Zoom logis­tics for vir­tu­al events, includ­ing cre­at­ing reg­is­tra­tion pages (the Cen­ter is cur­rent­ly doing vir­tu­al events because of COVID, and we antic­i­pate that we will con­tin­ue to do most of our events vir­tu­al­ly due to the loca­tions of attendees)
    • Assist with sched­ul­ing and planning
    • Assist with coor­di­na­tion of logis­tics for in-per­son events (future)
  • Bud­get & Fundraising:
    • Assist in track­ing the Center’s budget
    • Sup­port fundrais­ing efforts through research and writ­ing reports and pro­pos­als and assist­ing with scheduling 

Require­ments and Qualifications

  • Edu­ca­tion & Expe­ri­ence: Bachelor’s degree and 1 – 2 years of expe­ri­ence (we include sum­mer or oth­er internships).
  • Col­lab­o­ra­tive: able to work well with­in a team in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Dead­lines: com­fort­able work­ing under pres­sure and tight dead­lines; can pri­or­i­tize work­load, stay orga­nized, and seek input as needed. 
  • Writ­ing and Edit­ing: high lev­el of atten­tion to detail; abil­i­ty to clear­ly sum­ma­rize and present material. 
  • Graph­ic Design & Web­site: expe­ri­ence with pro­grams such as Pho­to­shop, Inde­sign, Illus­tra­tor, or Can­va, and an inter­est in learn­ing our con­tent man­age­ment sys­tem (Craft CMS).

The State Impact Cen­ter is look­ing for an Oper­a­tions Man­ag­er to begin in May 2022. The Oper­a­tions Man­ag­er will play an impor­tant role in the Center’s day-to-day pro­gram­ming and oper­a­tions. The Oper­a­tions Man­ag­er will be respon­si­ble for under­stand­ing and over­see­ing the Center’s bud­get and will serve as our point of con­tact with NYU’s admin­is­tra­tive offices. The Oper­a­tions Man­ag­er will also aid the Center’s legal team in track­ing court and agency dead­lines and in fol­low­ing news items and events.

Core Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  • Oper­a­tions & Admin­is­tra­tive Work: 
    • Pro­vide admin­is­tra­tive and oper­a­tions sup­port to the Center’s lead­er­ship and to the NYU Law Fellows
    • Serve as the Center’s liai­son with NYU oper­a­tional depart­ments, includ­ing human resources, devel­op­ment, and finance
    • Assist with plan­ning of work­shops, events, and speak­ing engage­ments for the Cen­ter, man­ag­ing logis­tics before and dur­ing events for Cen­ter staff and guest speak­ers and panelists
    • Coor­di­nate hir­ing and onboard­ing process­es for Cen­ter staff, NYU Law Fel­lows, legal interns, and out­side consultants
  • Research & Writing: 
    • Track envi­ron­men­tal, cli­mate, and ener­gy activ­i­ty in courts, at fed­er­al agen­cies, and in Congress
    • Con­duct research and write con­tent for Cen­ter reports, projects, and oth­er publications
  • Bud­get & Fundraising:
    • Track and man­age the Center’s budget
    • Sup­port fundrais­ing efforts through research and writ­ing reports and proposals

Require­ments and Qualifications

  • Edu­ca­tion & Expe­ri­ence: bachelor’s degree and 1 – 5 years of expe­ri­ence (we include sum­mer or oth­er internships).
  • Orga­ni­za­tion: excel­lent orga­ni­za­tion­al skills and abil­i­ty to proac­tive­ly man­age many simul­ta­ne­ous issues, mul­ti­task, and prioritize.
  • Dead­lines: com­fort work­ing under pres­sure and tight deadlines.
